REACH FOR A DREAM

In 2016, the beneficiary for The NavChallenge is Reach For A Dream. Reach For A Dream is a registered Section 21 company whose vision is to give hope to children fighting life-threatening illnesses through the fulfillment of their dreams.

Reach ForA Dream fulfills the dreams of children between the ages of 3 and 18 who have been diagnosed as having a life-threatening illness. They do not discriminate based on race, culture, financial status or any other factor. Each child living with a life-threatening illness is given a chance to dream.

For children who have been diagnosed as having a life-threatening illness, the magic of childhood may be lost in the emotional, physical and financial strain of dealing with their illness. Reach For A Dream tries to alleviate some of this strain (which often affects the whole family), by creating a different environment for the child – one that is not focused on her/ his illness.

No child should live without hope. Childhood can be the most magical phase of the human existence, filled with dreams, aspirations and most of all… fun!Reach For A Dream aim to inspire and motivate children to believe in their dreams and to provide them with a time when they can just be kids, have fun, laugh out loud and see themselves in a different world… where all their dreams can come true. Reach For A Dream believe in the power of dreams and encourage children to use their dreams to fight their life-threatening illnesses.

RaceInterface would like to assist Reach for A Dream to help children find their laughter again and therein find the strength to live beyond their illnesses.

Our pledge strategy has proven to be very successful in the past. Competitors of each race are invited to obtain pledges for the number of points they earn eg R1 per point. Their pledge forms are returned at registration and then RaceInterface undertakes to collect all the monies on their behalf. 100% of these funds are then donated to the beneficiary.

OTHER BENIFICIARIES

In addition to supporting Reach For A Dream, we have other related initiatives:

  • To give back to the communities who host us. We raise funds on the day of each event for a cause local to the area in which our event takes place
  • Supporting initiatives within disadvantaged communities to get vulnerable children off the streets and involved in sport. We make a number of complimentary entries available to each of our races and navigation training course to underprivileged children by making facilities available to these children to participate in sports such as mountain biking and trail running.

RaceInterface is committed to making a difference.

OTHER BENEFICIARIES

In addition to supporting Reach For A Dream, we have three other initiatives:

· To give back to the communities who host us. We raise funds on the day of each eventfor a cause local to the area in which our event takes place. For example, our August 2011 event traversed the land of Camphill School (a school for mentally handicapped adults) and we were pleased to be able to raise funds for them.

· Supporting initiatives within disadvantaged communities to get vulnerable children off the streets and involved in sport. We make a number of complimentary entries available to each of our races and navigation training course to underprivileged children by making facilities available to these children to participate in sports such as mountain biking.

· To create work and use local African craftsman to make our medals so that we are able to offer a) something that is as unique as our event and b) something that is truly African.
